Math 120 : Introductory Calculus I

Course Text:  Single Variable Calculus, Early Transcendental Functions, 6th Ed. by Stewart, Brookes/Cole 2008

Course Description: (4) The techniques of calculus will be stressed. Topics include functions, limits and continuity, derivatives, the Mean Value theorem, applications of derivatives, the Riemann integral, application of the integral, the fundamental theorem of integral calculus, and logarithmic and exponential functions.

Prerequisite: MATH 111 or placement.

Calculator: Portions of the exams and homework may require a graphing calculator such as the TI-86.

Last day for students to withdraw with a W from Fall semester classes:   Thursday, Oct. 21

Fall Break:  October 11, 12

Thanksgiving Break:  November 24-26

Midterm exams:  Tuesday September 21, and Tuesday, November 2.

Final Exam :  There will be a common final on Wednesday, December 15, 8:00-11:00 A.M. (Location TBA) .

Note:  Make up tests will be given only under extraordinary circumstances.  If you miss an exam, you must obtain a written excuse from the Dean of Undergraduate Studies.

Grading Policy:  There will be two midterms on:   Tuesday September 21, and Tuesday, November 2.  Each midterm will be worth 25%, the final will be worth 35% and the homework 15%.   The lower bound percentages for the various grades are given below:
